Compare Drupal With Other Content Management Systems
You can compare Drupal with tens of other CMSs available in the matrix on this wonderful site CMSMatrix.org. You should compare Drupal with Joomla, Mambo and other CMSs, comparing it with Wordpress is not the right thing, we feel.
Who Uses Drupal
Here is the official statement from Drupal's site - "Today, Drupal powers sites including the homepages of Warner Brothers Records, The New York Observer, Fast Company, Popular Science, and Amnesty International and project sites by SonyBMG, Forbes, Harvard University, and more. Drupal can be used to create personal weblogs (Tim Berners-Lee), deliver podcasts (TWIT.tv), connect online communities (SpreadFireFox.com), form artist collectives (Terminus 1525) or inform the masses (The Onion)."
There is also a Drupal Showcase forum on the official Drupal.org where users posts there latest websites powered by Drupal and sometimes it also carries a discussion on how they did it.It's generally the best place to find Drupal sites based on current core and modules.
The Official Drupal Documentation
Drupal Handbooks is the place to start for the latest information about Drupal. Here you can find information like Getting Started, Theming Guides, Beyond the Basics, Developing for Drupal and other Drupal.org resources.
The most important thing to know is that Drupal follows version system. The current release is Drupal 6, the older stabilized version was Drupal 5 and Drupal 7 development has already started. So when you are following any document, you need to know what version you are on and what advice you need to follow.
